Alouette River Redux

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Last summer I found a hidden gem 8 kms upstream from the usual launching point at Harris Road on the Alouette River.  At the end the river thins and becomes crystal clear, with pools of large trout circling below, wildlife everywhere (coyotes, deer, herons, ducks, geese, beavers, bald eagles, and believe it or not sea otters!)  The length of the trip is well worth it for the peace and quiet up there.

Chalk!  Who knew chalk could be so much fun.  Our entire backyard is Erik’s canvas, and why not?  It all washes away in the rain.

Anita and I just had the fortune of rare night:  A babysitter.  We went to go see the new Star Trek movie, and I am happy to officially declare this the greatest movie ever made.

Just a couple of photos from around the garden at the wife’s parent’s place.  My mother in law has quite the impressive garden.

Erik’s first canoe ride

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

This morning we packed up the family and headed to Buntzen Lake to take Erik paddling for the first time. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time, and am looking forward to many many more days of paddling with him. I think he enjoyed it!

First Paddle

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Taking Erik for his first canoe ride this morning, just taking a minute in the garage to get things prepared. I’ve been looking forward to this day since we first found out Anita was pregnant. He’s got a paddle and lifejacket and we’re all set to go.
We’re back!  And here are the photos.
