What a great day to go out for a paddle. I live just around the corner from Buntzen Lake now, and it was nice to pack up and be canoeing in such a short time. Basically I waited for Erik’s afternoon nap time, and made it back home just after he woke up. No loss of daddy time!

I have a small obsession growing with Keen Footwear. I used to love Merrells and swore by them, but their quality took a nosedive with the last fewPairs I bought. Even my first pair of Keens, now two years old, still look and feel brand new.
Two things I can't have enough of, these shoes and backpacks. I only have three, but wish I had tons more.
Today I stopped by the IBM offices in Burnaby for a demo of their blade server systems. A blade rack is essentially a big box that holds a bunch of servers and drives.
The enclosure holds the standard parts like power supplies, and is smartly designed to keep all the servers and drives in it alive and available through robust and automatic recovery, eliminating single sources of potential failure. If one of the power supplies fails, the others keep going, so you can just yank it out and replace it without any servers going down. Nearly everything is hot-swappable, even the server plades themselves.
I'll describe this all a bit more when I get to my computer.
Yeah they redeemed themselves finally! Metallica was the reason I started paying guitar way, way, way back in the day. Their last few albums have sucked, and then there was that whole Metallica versus Napster deal that just made them suck even harder.
But I’m letting their past slide (mainly because all their pissing did was kill Napster, but all the press made P2P file sharing skyrocket anyways). Their latest album Death Magnetic is fantastic. I can’t stop listening to it, and I’m ready to buy a guitar again and relearn how to headbang.
